I am not building any newspaper / magazine sites but, I do monitor the SitePoint web design feed (http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/categories/templates-for-sale/feed) and I see a lot of newspaper designs flow through there - mostly for WP. But, I would like to see more newspaper / magazine themes on d.o. There seems to be a high interest around the net lately for these types of themes.
